
Future of workforce not formed in school rooms: AICTE chairman

Speaking on the two-day nationwide convention on street map to VIKSIT Bharat – a multi- disciplinary strategy, Prof. Sitharam mentioned: “From 2001 to 2025, we reached from Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) 11% to 29% in larger schooling. As per New Education Policy (NEP), we need to develop 50% GER by 2025. That means we need to develop 21% in ten years. This is the largest problem for us. How many universities are required? How many academics are required? Every youth has to have entry to high quality schooling,” he mentioned.
Pointing to profitable efforts taken to enhance GER in elementary schooling earlier than 2015, Prof. Sitharam mentioned: “As you realize, in 2015, we reached GER 94% in elementary schooling. That means 26.5 crore college students are in class schooling. Two crore college students are going to come back to larger schooling yearly. We have solely the capability to soak up them at 30% GER.”
Stressing the necessity for holistic transformation of upper schooling, he mentioned the National Education Policy 2020 marked a watershed second. “The future workforce is formed not within the school rooms, however past the school rooms.
