
Surplus water launched from Erode Bhavanisagar Dam after reaching full reservoir stage

According to the Water Resources Department, the dam is storing 28.75 tmc ft of water in opposition to its complete capability of 32.8 tmc ft. The influx on the time of full reservoir stage was recorded at 20,427 cusecs.
As of Saturday morning (July 26, 2025), a complete of 9,705 cusecs was launched from the dam. Of this, 9,700 cusecs has been discharged into the Bhavani River, whereas 5 cusecs has been diverted into the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) canal.
Officials stated the amount of discharge into the river could also be elevated additional relying on subsequent inflows, with the potential to succeed in as much as 25,000 cusecs. People residing in low-lying areas and alongside the banks of the Bhavani River have been suggested to relocate to safer areas. The district administration has been instructed to implement all precautionary measures to make sure public security and shield property.
In view of the elevated water stream, public entry to the Kodiveri Anicut has been restricted till additional orders. The Water Resources Department has imposed a ban on bathing, fishing and the operation of coracles within the Bhavani River.
