Asaram’s quickly bail prolonged by a month, courtroom says remaining extension

Sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2013 rape case, Asaram (86), is on bail on medical grounds.
The division bench of Justices Ilesh Vora and PM Raval prolonged Asaram’s momentary bail by yet another month. Before the bail granted to him by the courtroom on March 28 expired on June 30, the courtroom had granted him an interim extension until July 7.
During a listening to on Thursday, Asaram’s lawyer sought that the bail be prolonged for 3 extra months. However, the HC mentioned it might prolong the bail for just one extra month and that it might be the “remaining extension”. An in depth order is awaited.
Asaram had approached the excessive courtroom when the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court until March 31 on medical grounds was coming to an finish, because the apex courtroom had directed him to take action if he wanted any extension.

In the current case, he was convicted for raping a girl disciple, who hailed from Surat, on a number of events from 2001 to 2006 when she was dwelling at his ashram at Motera close to Ahmedabad.
He was convicted below Indian Penal Code sections 376 2 (C) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful detention), 354 (assault or legal drive to girl with intent to outrage her modesty), 357 (assault) and 506 (legal intimidation).
