Boulder fallsinto a avenue in Vaniyambadi as a consequence of rain; none injured

Based on an alert, Vaniyambadi Town police and civic officers inspected the spot. Workers have been deployed by the municipality to chop and take away the boulder.

“This is the primary such incident within the space, which isn’t a landslide-prone spot. We have suggested residents to relocate to safer areas because the area is witnessing common rain,” Ok. Raghuraman, Commissioner of Vaniyambadi Municipality, informed The Hindu.

Municipal officers stated that round 1,500 households are positioned on the foothills. Many of them have constructed homes on the hill illegally. Initial inquiry by police and civic officers revealed {that a} resident had dug a pit to assemble an extra room of his home within the hills on Monday.

Civic officers say building actions may have loosened the soil across the boulder and led to its fall from the hillock. “We have requested income officers and Collector to demolish encroachments within the hills and relocate affected households to stop any untoward incidents in future,” stated a municipal official.
