As the ambulance arrives, paramedics consider the severity of his accidents, and conclude that it will be too late if they’re to move him by highway to the closest hospital. They name the air ambulance unit whereas stabilising the affected person.
Soon, a chopper arrives and a journey of fifty kilometres, which might have taken over an hour by highway, is clocked in a fraction of that point. This was a simulation carried out by the International Critical Care Air Transfer Team (ICATT), a Bengaluru-based air ambulance service supplier, throughout its Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) drill on the Saveetha Medical College grounds on Friday.
While the arrange and mobilisation prices of air ambulance companies had been “substantial”, they might be offset if the federal government entered the image to assist such initiatives, stated Rahul Singh, Founder and Director, ICATT. “We have began comparable initiatives in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh with the assistance of the State governments. In Madhya Pradesh, we provide a flying time of 100 hours a month and it prices the federal government ₹25 crore yearly. Due to the excessive institution prices, we insist on a five-year contract,” Dr. Singh added.
The helicopter used for the drill was the U.S.-made Bell 429 – a compact 5-seater with a six-seven metre rotor radius – which may land on a 100-sq.km. helipad.
“It has twin engines, inflexible rotors, is able to dealing with powerful climate circumstances, and is instrument flying enabled,” stated Wing Commander V.T. Prakash, one of many pilots.
“Air ambulances are used extensively by the army. Slowly, civilian use is rising,” Mr. Prakash added.
Dr. Singh stated that his firm, which he co-founded with Dr. Shalini Nalwad, plans to submit a proposal to the Tamil Nadu authorities for establishing air ambulances companies in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai.
