
Bengal BJP chief strikes Calcutta HC accusing police of detaining him illegally
The petition particulars numerous cases of illegal restriction and detention by the police throughout some current political agitations

“The petition, filed by his authorized counsel, particulars numerous cases of illegal restriction and detention by the police, allegedly carried out with full disregard for the due means of legislation and the elemental rights assured below Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India,” the assertion mentioned.
Majumdar is the Union minister of state for schooling and growth of north east area.
The petition sought “issuance of a writ of mandamus directing state authorities to strictly act throughout the constitutional and authorized framework whereas coping with political protests or engagements by the petitioner.”
It additionally sought a high-level neutral enquiry into the detentions and disciplinary motion in opposition to the law enforcement officials involved.
In a parallel growth, the Lok Sabha secretariat has sought a factual notice from the Union residence ministry on a June 19 incident that Majumdar has cited as breach of privilege of a Parliament member.
In an official notice, a replica of which was seen by HT, the Lok Sabha secretariat requested the Home ministry on June 27 to file a factual notice on an alleged assault on Majumdar’s convoy by Trinamool Congress supporters at Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district on June 19.
In a letter to the Lok Sabha speaker, a replica of which was seen by HT, Majumdar alleged on June 20 that the Diamond Harbour police superintendent and the sub-divisional police officer “didn’t take any preventive or protecting motion.”
The West Bengal police didn’t make any assertion on Majumdar’s writ petition and the allegation of breach of privilege until Wednesday afternoon.
