New Delhi – India today strongly refuted and condemned Pakistan’s official denials of its recent aggressive actions, labeling them as “blatantly farcical” and part of a deep-seated pattern of duplicity and disinformation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted several instances where Pakistan has attempted to mislead the world regarding its unprovoked attacks on India.
During a briefing, the MEA spokesperson addressed Pakistan’s response to the events of May 8th and 9th, where the Pakistan military carried out extensive airspace violations, drone intrusions, and shelling along the border. The spokesperson stated that the “official and blatantly farcical denial of these attacks carried out by the Pakistani state machinery is yet another example of their duplicity and the new depths that they are plumbing in their quest for disinformation.”
The MEA specifically called out Pakistan’s false claims regarding the targeting of religious places. Despite clear evidence and India’s statements about the attack on a Gurdwara in Poonch, Pakistan has denied targeting religious sites. The spokesperson reiterated that the Gurdwara in Poonch was indeed attacked by Pakistan, resulting in the tragic loss of lives of local Sikh community members, including the Ragi.
Furthermore, the MEA spokesperson dismissed Pakistan’s “preposterous and outrageous claim” that it was the Indian armed forces and the Indian Air Force that were targeting cities like Amritsar and attempting to shift the blame onto Pakistan. “This is nothing but a desperate attempt by Pakistan to disown its acts of aggression,” the spokesperson asserted.
The MEA characterized Pakistan’s narrative as “true to type in its effort to deceive and mislead the world,” adding emphatically that “It will not succeed.” The spokesperson also referenced Pakistan’s disinformation campaign regarding the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara, calling claims of an Indian drone attack on the site a “blatant lie” and part of Pakistan’s efforts to impart a communal hue to the situation and create discord.
The spokesperson described Pakistan’s suggestion that India would attack its own cities as a “deranged fantasy,” implying that such a notion could only originate from the Pakistani state, which is perhaps “well-versed in such action as their history would show.”
The MEA, in its detailed account of Pakistan’s aggression and India’s response – which included information conveyed by Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh on the operational details – aimed to counter Pakistan’s false narrative with facts. India’s response, which was described as proportionate, adequate, and responsible, stands in contrast to Pakistan’s attempts to conceal its actions and mislead the international community.
The briefing underscored India’s view that Pakistan’s disinformation is a deliberate tactic aimed at diverting attention from its sponsorship of terrorism and its aggressive actions along the border. The MEA maintained that India’s steadfast unity in the face of these provocations is itself a challenge to Pakistan’s attempts to create division and spread false narratives.
